Seventh Forest Partnership

Below is some basic information about our youngest partnership. It is quite similar to all our previous ones so looking at information about them on other pages as well will give you some idea of what to expect.

’Seventh Forest Partnership' is in four forest stands on four different hill country farms. To achieve further diversity we planted two quite distinct species. The Partnership’s assets are:

50 hectares of Douglas-fir on Gola Peaks, North Canterbury, 14 hectares of Radiata pine on Glens of Tekoa, North Canterbury, 46 hectares of Radiata pine on Hopefield Station, North Canterbury and 60 hectares of Radiata pine on Chimney Creek in Marlborough.

The Radiata will all be 29-30 year high grade clearwood regimes growing GF Plus stock selected for the best available wood qualities. The Douglas-fir will be a 35 year clear-fell construction timber regime growing the provenance ‘Tramway’.

The minimum share of 1% ("1 unit") is an investment of $4,675 to date then annual investment of $425 for nine more years. Finance for up to 24 months is available. A 1% share represents an undivided 1.4 hectares (3.5 acres) of plantation.The investment's forecast Internal Rate of Return (or compound growth rate above inflation) is 7.8%, which is typical of good direct forest investments in NZ. However ‘Seventh Forest Partnership' is designed to provide that long term return at a reduced risk due to the diversity of sites and species, a feature no other firm provides.

Another unique feature is that no investor money is sunk into any land purchase, as ‘Seventh Forest Partnership' is a joint venture with four farms. That means much more of the investment (~90%) is tax deductible and the problems and added risk of land ownership are avoided.
